About The CST Alliance and Our Mission

The Craniosacral Therapy Alliance (CST Alliance) was developed in 2009 to provide craniosacral therapy education and training. We are a group of teacher therapists who realized that students and therapists at the local level were looking for help in refining their skills, seeking answers to their treatment questions and searching for support with clinical considerations. We could see a real need for opportunities to study, trade sessions, teach and work together to share new and current craniosacral therapy (CST) experiences. We believe by teaching small groups of practitioners in local areas we can increase the availability of CST to the general public, as well as increase interest in CST instruction to a wider variety of practitioner. In this way we can all help heal each other in this troubled world.

Why the Name CST Alliance?

We chose our name to reflect our mission -- to move forward and advance the work of CST and all manual therapy really. The dictionary defines alliance as "an allying or close association of groups or nations for a common objective." It is about what we can learn from our patients in the clinic and what we can learn from research and sharing of our experiences in practice. I am proud to say we are in "alliance" and have continuing educational provider status with many national and provincial massage, CST and/or bodywork continuing educators including: United States (NCBTMB), Ireland (IACST), New Brunswick (CMTNB), Nova Scotia (MTANS). Together we are sharing, teaching, learning and moving forward topics of massage, CST, LMT, myofascial work, Breath Venting (TM), and self help, relaxation and home exercise techniques. I am proud to say the CST Alliance is truly an international alliance of dedicated patients, practitioners, teachers and conscientious world citizens working together to make the world a touch better. We welcome therapists and students from all nations and trainings to be a part of our "Alliance."

About Our Classes and the CST Education and Training Center

The classes offered at CST Alliance are new, original and developed by Don Ash, PT, CSTA-CP-I and Sheryl McGavin, OTL, CSTA-CP-I. They are based on the traditional teachings of William G. Sutherland, D.O., and John E. Upledger, D.O., O.M.M. For many of us, John Upledger was our direct teacher. Our classes combine new anatomical study and theory moving forward principles taught by Sutherland and Upledger and their teachers, A.T. Still and Emmanuel Swedenborg. The content, format and structure of our classes enables the student to absorb information and allows for valuable supervised hands-on time to practice under the guidance of experienced CST clinicians. We limit the size of our classes to provide more one-on-one time between the teacher and each student. Beyond the classroom, support is available to our students locally between classes as they practice and process what they have learned in class by a phone call or an e-mail to any of our teachers. Our students have found this support helpful as they assimilate new information and skills while moving forward through the curriculum.
